I have to think that there’s an unspoken rivalry between Jeeps and Hummers and the people who own them. It’s all in good fun, of course. Or not…

Am I the only one seeing a major HUMMER/Jeep rivalry starting up here? It’s not just simple competitiveness either, but a deep-rooted grudge that began when HUMMER won the right to use the seven-slat grille after a long court battle — AM General, HUMMERs owner (GM merely owns marketing rights), was once owned by American Motors Corporation (AMC) which also owned Jeep, before being sold to Chrysler Group. One thing’s for sure. Each thinks that its own trail-ready workhorse is the best in the land. Which one is really the best offroad vehicle though?…

And this camaraderie is identified by something called "the Jeep Wave". It’s all in good fun.

Last year, Jeep had a fun contest where they hid Jeep Travel Bugs all across the U.S. and with the aid of a GPS, you could participate in their game to win fun prizes.

This year, there’s no such game (yet), but they do have an online version of Jeep geocaching that they’re letting people download and play for free.

This is a serious game for diehard Jeepers though… it’s a 63 MB download!

Free?  Yes. But this is not a game to be taken lightly.

My guess is that those who download and play this game are the competitive type. Check out some of the challenges:

• Explore the terrain in one of 4 Jeep vehicles: 2008 Liberty Limited, 2007 Grand Cherokee Limited, 2007 Commander Limited, or a 2007 Wrangler Rubicon.
• Hop out of your Jeep vehicle at any time to access hard-to-reach areas on foot.
• You must collect the cache to unlock postcards and e-mail them to your friends.
• Compete in 5 timed “mini-missions” and get your score on Jeep’s global leaderboard.
• Experience realistic weather effects in 5 different terrains

I’ve heard mixed reviews, from "the Jeep’s handling is not all that responsive, but it’s still fun" to "it’s best for younger kids."

I haven’t tried the Jeep Thrills Wii yet myself, but we’re thinking of getting a Wii and the Jeeper in me makes me want to try it.

It’s just for fun anyway, right? Plus, my nephew would love it when he comes to visit. We converted him into a Jeeper at a young age. Now he always asks when he can ride in the back of Uncle Jim’s Jeep and asks his dad when they’re going to get a Jeep. (hee hee… it worked!)

Anyways… would love to hear from fellow Jeepers if this is a decent pick for the Wii or not. Thanks in advance.

“Buy a Jeep Wrangler” was on my list pretty much ever since I could drive, as evidenced by this scrapbook page I made after college:

 

Now that that one’s been accomplished (3 times over… we’re on our 3rd Jeep now!), it’s time to get busy on all those fun things we’ve been meaning to do in our Jeep and all the fun places we’ve been meaning to go.

As the proud owner of a vintage CJ-7 going on 10 years now, I’ve learned the hard — and, admittedly, sometimes fun — way about the do’s and don’ts of maintaining this type of vehicle.
